Cranial Therapy

Bay Area Cranial Therapy

Cranial Therapy is the gentle process of evaluating and treating the Central Nervous Systems restrictive patterns that are influencing the full expression of your health.

The Central Nervous System (Brain) controls all autonomic functioning. The Autonomic Nervous system, ANS, controls visceral functioning, ie Heart rate, respiration, digestion, salivation, sexual arousal. The ANS is governed by two opposing forces, the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous System.

Sympathetic characterized as fight or flight.  Parasympathetic characterized as rest and digest. There is a synergistic balance in which both of these systems are working at all times exerting their life affirming influences over the body. It is when one of these systems goes out of balance due to Stress, Chemical Emotional and/or physical that problems begin to occur.

Next to the blood in our bodies, Cerebrospinal fluid is most important. This is the aqueous fluid that the brain sets in along with traveling the length of the spinal cord, making sure that nutrients are recieved and waste is removed. The cerebrospinal fluid moves in a slight tide-like fashion throughout the spinal cord, perpetuated by the Occiput and Sacrum. Movement is life. Restrictions in this system causes alterations to the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and thus restricitons to Homeostasis. Release of restrictions in the cerebrospinal fluid flow via the gentle manipulation of the cranial bones release and reset the nervous system.

Cranial Sacral therapy was origionally developed by Ostopath Dr. William G. Sutherland and later refined and further developed by Osteopth Dr. John Upledger. Cranial therapy has helped to alleviate a host of physical and emotional problems.
